Classroom Information

Mrs. Belcher’s

4th Grade

Dear Families,

I am so glad to have your fourth grader.  We are going to have a wonderful year together!  Please read the following information and procedures.

1.      Our class is going to have our own blog/website at http://belchersbloggers.edublogs.org  Please check it daily.  It is a great tool for communication and important information.

2.      Your child will have a homework folder that must be brought to school on a daily basis.  Your child will be given a weekly assignment sheet to keep in their folder and they will be responsible for copying down their assignments each morning upon arrival.  The sheet also contains a place for additional information and test dates.  It is very important that you check your child’s folder for graded papers, important information and assignment sheet daily.  Please initial the assignment sheet each day!

3.      Tests are announced and posted on the chalkboard every Monday.  Your child is responsible for copying this to their weekly assignment sheets.  Vocabulary tests and Spelling tests will be given weekly.  Vocabulary will be on Thursdays and Spelling on Fridays.  Please make sure your child studies for tests in advance!

4.      All tests are to be signed by a parent or guardian and returned to school on the following school day.  These will be kept at school and used at conference times.  If your child repeatedly neglects to return signed tests, they will no longer be sent home.  You are welcome to view these tests at school at any time.

5.      If your child is absent, he or she will be given an assignment sheet listing what was missed upon returning to school.  Please be sure that your child completes these assignments and returns their work to school.

6.      Daily assignments not completed at school will become homework and are due the following day.  Additionally, there will be some assignments that are assigned specifically as homework.  Students are responsible for returning all homework the next morning.   Any late assignments will receive a 10pt deduction per day.  A zero will be recorded for any assignments still missing 3 days after their due date.

7.      Some assignments are required to be completed entirely at school.  Your child is responsible for completing and turning it in during the school day.

8.      There will also be some special projects the students will be required to do on their own.  I will inform you about these projects and their due dates well in advance.

9.      Your child will be using the Accelerated Reader (AR) program in fourth grade.  Each child will have an individual goal that they must reach.  There will books that are read in class and tests they are required to take for a class grade, but they will also be responsible for reading at home to meet their goal.  Please encourage your child to read AR books!

10.    Good behavior is extremely important to your child’s success in school.  A copy of my Classroom Rules/Behavior Plan is attached.  Please keep this copy available for your reference.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year!  Please feel free to contact me if you have any question or concerns.  You are also welcome to schedule a conference anytime you feel necessary.  You are welcome to contact me on the classroom blog or you may email me at jebelcher@bvps.org.  Thanks you so much for your support at home!  I look forward to meeting you!

                                                                                      Sincerely,

                                                                                    Mrs. Belcher
